“Joe Lickshot” passes…

As someone who’s been doing radio for 28 years right here in South Florida — and proud to have developed a loyal listenership — I have to take a moment to honor a true icon. The reggae and dancehall world has lost one of its most recognizable voices: Harold Jackson, better known as Joe Lickshot.

Joe Lickshot wasn’t just a name; he was a sound. His legendary “lick shots” — those sharp, energetic vocal bursts — became a signature element of reggae and dancehall culture. From Kingston’s vibrant 1970s scene to sound systems across the globe, his voice could ignite a crowd like few others.

Collaborating with some of Jamaica’s greatest producers and artists, Joe’s unmistakable tone and fiery ad-libs turned ordinary tracks into unforgettable anthems. He embodied the energy, creativity, and raw spirit that define reggae and dancehall music.

Though he had been battling prostate issues, his legacy remains alive in every dancehall and on every mic where his influence echoes. Joe Lickshot’s voice wasn’t just recognizable — it was revolutionary. Rest in power, legend — your sound lives on in the heartbeat of reggae forever.
