Some artists have a way of popping in and out of the spotlight—dropping musical gems, disappearing for a minute, and then resurfacing with something that reminds you exactly why their voice still matters. That’s the case right now with Jamaican singer Kehv, as UK-based Stingray Records proudly releases his brand-new track, “One Step Ahead.” Recorded in London at the legendary Stingray Studio and produced by C&R McLeod, the song is now available on all digital platforms via Tuff Gong International.

Everton “Kehv” Smith, born in St. Ann, Jamaica and raised in Florida, has always been a standout talent. A singer, songwriter, and producer, Kehv blends lovers rock, roots reggae, and soul into a sound that is warm, textured, and deeply heartfelt. Entirely self-taught, he has collaborated with icons like Inner Circle, Derrick Morgan, and Earl “Chinna” Smith, and shared stages with giants including The Wailers, Shaggy, and Beenie Man. With songs like “Addict,” Kehv made it clear that his voice carries both intimacy and power—rooted in consciousness and emotional storytelling.

After more than a decade, Kehv recently reconnected with Carl “Dillie” McLeod of Stingray Records, leading to a fresh reinterpretation of Aretha Franklin’s timeless gem “One Step Ahead.”

Kehv shared, “After over 10 years, relinking with Carl ‘Dillie’ Mcleod from Stingray Records, he came up with the idea of doing a cover of Aretha Franklin’s classic ‘One Step Ahead.’ In no time, I jumped on the vibes and this was the output.”

And if you want to experience it for yourself, you can hear “One Step Ahead” in heavy rotation on the Wake Up and Live show with Sir Rockwell on www.RockDaBox.net.
